Diskussion:UDSSR und Russland ab 1917

Anmerkungen von T. Leipälä zur Produktion in Leningrad (Kirja, Prometei, Portable):
There is practically no information available about Kirja arithmometer, but "Valtion kustannusliike Kirja" (Staatliche Verlag Kirja) was the state publishing house for Finnish literature in Soviet Union and it had branches in Leningrad (St. Petersburg) and Petrozavodsk (Finnish name Petroskoi). The recent history book of Kirja publishing house mentions only very briefly that the company had in 1932 a calculating machine factory in Leningrad.

Evidently it was a joint enterprise with Latvian cultural society Prometei (a Russian version of Prometheus), which also produced Prometei slide rules from 1931 and published slide rule instruction books. At least calculating machine Portable by Prometei (not Prometer as claimed in many places) is identical with Kirja.

The logo of Kirja on Sergei Frolov's calculating machine was introduced in 1931.
